A beautiful example of hyper-realism from recent-contemporary Spanish artist Antonio Lopez Garcia.

Would encourage you to click through on the image for the larger view, and look what realism effects have been achieved with basically blocks and smears of paint in places (look especially at the buildings along the left and right edges of the painting).

Part of what allows that carefree attitude with the brush is that the perspective and values are exact, creating a framework for believable depth in which the artist can then run around slinging paint and letting it muddy together wherever that's wanted.
