Having got through the 'lower half' of the genre ranks, we're going to take an autumn-themed pause this week; the intent will be not to speak overly much, but rather to just freestyle think about these works, feel how they tap into a certain atmosphere, and enjoy. I'll post a mix of still life, animal paintings, and landscapes, along with paintings mixing these genres with the first reappearances of people (or "people-blobs", to use my mother's favorite term).
Speaking of which, above we have a simple composition from Winslow Homer, The West Wind. I first 'met' Homer as a chronicler of the American Civil War, but he's probably remembered as much or more for his marine paintings. Here's the Addison Gallery's blurb on the piece.
